Ericsson-owned Tandberg Television announced yesterday that its IPTV head end has been chosen to support the IPTV services of Korea’s leading integrated communications service provider, KT.
KT will use Tandberg’s IPTV encoders to support the continued growth of its Mega TV subscription service.
Mega TV has over 700,000 subscribers in Korea, and currently offers interactive video on demand and pay per view services, including movies on demand.
However, changes in Korea’s IPTV regulations mean that IPTV providers are now allowed to offer broadcast services in addition to their existing video-on-demand services.
As such, Tandberg’s EN8090 HD MPEG-4 AVC and EN8030 SD MPEG-4 AVC encoders will be used to implement and expand a linear broadcast TV service on Mega TV.
Dario Choi, vice president and general manager at Tandberg, said: “The Mega TV IPTV service has established itself as one of the leading IPTV services globally.
“We are proud of our long-standing relationship with KT for the provision of IPTV, and pleased to expand and further strengthen Mega TV.”
