Nokia has announced plans to launch a ‘live tools’ service for customers in India.

The Finnish mobile phone giant will offer two services in the country: one aimed at the farming community, the other aimed at students.

For a monthly fee of Rs 30 (£0.42) or Rs 60, farmers will receive daily updates on agriculture, commodity prices, weather and other related issues direct to their mobile handsets.

The service will be offered in co-operation with international news agency Reuters.

Students, on the other hand, will be given the chance to learn a new language.

Each day a new word will be sent to the student’s phone, with an explanation of what it means, and how it should be used.

According to Nokia, after learning just 700 words it is possible to hold a conversation in another language.

D. Shiva Kumar, Nokia’s managing director of mobile phones in India, said the aim of the two projects is to empower people.

Nokia has also launched its ‘Comes With Music’ service in India, which provides free unlimited music downloads for one year with certain Nokia handsets.

India is Nokia’s second biggest market in the world after China.
