Korea-based Samsung has announced that it will be supplying its cutting edge WiBro hardware to network operators in ten countries around the world, including Taiwan and Kuwait.
Taiwan-based Vmax Telecom has placed orders with Samsung for WiBro base stations, network access gateways, and related equipment.
Vmax’s order includes 200 base stations, and is valued at $12-$15 million.
MADA Communications Co. of Kuwait also placed an order with Samsung for WiBro service related equipment with commercial launch of the service set for 2010.
WiBro is an improved version of the 4G WiMax standard that allows internet connectivity even when a user is moving.
Analysts at ABI Research forecast that the WiBro market will grow from $3.5 billion this year to $59.6 billion in 2012.
Over the same period, the WiBro subscriber base will increase from 12 million to 280 million.
