
There seems no immediate end to Channel Four’s financial problems and the prospect of getting any money from the TV licence fee does not look likely in the near future.
This has put the broadcaster in a tricky situation and, as always in times like this, susceptible to a takeover by a business that has better finance package behind it.
One such organisation could be the owner of Five, RTL.
RTL are a Germany-based broadcaster who own around forty TV channels covering around ten different countries.
They would dearly love to gain a large foothold in the UK market and maybe Channel Four could fit the bill, although they did try this back in 2004, but the deal fell apart before anything could be established.
