by David Allen

HDi is a new internet application which could mean that UK broadband users will be able to download and stream HD video from the internet, no matter how fast their broadband connection is.

This technology is set to revolutionise the viewing of video over the internet for millions of viewers worldwide who already subscribe to internet based television services.

The total number of viewers subscribing to these services is expected to be around twenty million by the end of the year.

HDi technology allows the streaming of high definition video to monitors without the lag or judder that users with slower connections normally experience.

Currently only FilmOn will be using the technology, with the possibility of it being introduced into set top boxes at a later date.

FilmOn offer around seven thousand films. Over half of these are free to view, with recent releases costing £4 for streaming or £5 for downloads.
