The good news is that four million broadband users will be able to connect to the super version of broadband within five years, according to a report by Point Topic.
The bad news is, what about the other sixteen million broadband users?
It would seem feasible that as whole sections of society are taken off the network, as they are converted to fibre, the speed could get faster for the other users, but this is not necessarily the case because speed is affected by distance from the exchange.
However, even with this rollout of fibre the famed speed of 50 Mbps may not be attainable, as it is very likely that the fibre will go the cabinet rather than the home, therefore a more realistic connection speed is likely to be around 20 Mbps.
