PAYG by Microsoft

by David Allen

Although pay as you go (PAYG) is an accepted concept in the mobile broadband and phone industry, when it comes to computers it is virtually unknown.

Yet the mighty Microsoft has applied for a patent which is basically a PAYG concept.

This process will see the consumer paying for the software and hardware they use, by meter.

This would be for either or both the software and the hardware, with the money being taken from a pre-paid account.

Naturally, without the full details, it is hard to speculate on costs, but one thing is sure, it is bound to work out more expensive for the user than paying for the software and hardware in one payment.

However, the PAYG customer would have advantage of not having to come up with the up front payment.
