The global economic crisis has caused US-based analyst DisplaySearch to revise its TV market forecast for 2009.
The revisions are particularly significant for the LCD TV market, where global sales are expected to rise 17% to 119.9 units, but revenues look set to fall 16% to $64 billion as manufacturers offer discounts in an effort to increase their market share.
This is great news for consumers, who could pick up some bargains, but the economic conditions will present significant challenges for the TV industry and supply chain.
DisplaySearch expects sales of plasma TVs to increase 24% 13.9 million units in 2008, but just 5% in 2009 to 14.6 million units.
