Wooden spoon for BT

by David Allen

No business ever wants to get the wooden spoon award for any service that they provide, but in a customer survey conducting by Money Mail this is exactly what telecom giant BT received - the Money Mail Wooden Spoon Award for 2008.

The main reason for the award was the poor customer service given to customers over the past year.

Problems included customers having to find their way around a complex electronic switchboard, the use of overseas call centres, and customers generally not being able to sort problems out with the company.

Virgin Media found themselves in third place, while satellite provider Sky came in at tenth place.

What makes this worse for these businesses is that it is a general table, not just made up of telecom, broadband and TV companies, yet three of the country’s main providers of these services made it into the top ten.
