When BT brought out its IPTV service, BT Vision, it was marketed as being a different and alternative method of watching top quality TV content, without the viewer needing to pay for services they were never going to watch.
After two years BT Vision has around 350,000 users, which initially would not appear too bad – after all it took Sky two years to get to the 300,000 subscriber level.
However, Sky now has nine million subscribers and Virgin Media has over three and half million.
BT Vision’s problem is that choice of channels and how much these channels will cost, is not as clear as Sky or Virgin Media’s offer, where a subscriber pays for a package of channels, which can include films, sports or both.
