Ofcom releases broadband speed figures

After carrying out what they are calling the most sophisticated and thorough tests ever under, the telecom regulator, Ofcom, says that the UK average broadband speed is now 3.6 Mbps.

Clearly this figure is well below that which many internet service providers claim their networks can offer and, more importantly, what they charge for.

On average, this means that broadband customers are receiving a speed around forty five per cent lower than the advertised speed.

These finding come not long after the regulator introduced the idea of ISPs providing true and accurate details of their connection speeds.

There is still a long way to go before the speeds the ISPs say they can offer, and the speeds that customers actually get, are unified in some way.
