Tax rebate email warning
by David Allen

Many taxpayers are receiving emails which look as if they come from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), at a time when they might expect to hear from HMRC, with the 31 January deadline for self assessment drawing closer.
These emails claim that those who are self employed or run a small business are due for a tax rebate, something that is music to people’s ears.
All they have to do is click on the link provided enter their bank details and that is it.
Well of course, that is not it, because these emails are very cleverly produced to look as if they come from HMRC but they are in fact phishing emails, designed to steal the bank and personal details of taxpayers.
They also invite the recipients to ring a dedicated phone number, which charges around £6 per minute.
