Vizimo: iPhone users prefer BBC

According to Vizimo, iPhone users in the UK were much more likely to watch BBC programming over the Christmas period.

Vizimo, whose Tioti TV+ application for Apple’s iPhone and iPod enables people to programme their Sky+ box directly – found that of the 50 most recorded programmes, 39 were broadcast by the BBC.

The Doctor Who Christmas special saw the largest iPhone audience – not surprising, really, as it was the most watched program in the UK over the Christmas period. According to BARB, the total number of people who watched as well as recorded the episode was 13.1 million viewers.

The top 5 watched programs were all BBC broadcast, and of the most popular 50, 7 were from Channel 4, and only 4 from ITV.

Simon Steward, Vizimo’s CEO, said, “This data doesn’t confirm what people are watching per se, but it does give a good idea of what people really don’t want to miss. The recording bias seems to suggest that the BBC has more unmissable content than other broadcasters – or perhaps that it got the scheduling wrong and aired its most popular content when people wanted to be doing something else.”

Despite the advent of digital TV which sees around 400 channels now available in the UK, it appears that the BBC remains on top, even with Sky subscribers.
