Is it possible that the BBC and ITV could end up sharing resources when it comes to regional news.
This would mean that although their regional news programmes would still be separate, behind the scenes, buildings, footage, in fact everything else, would be shared.
This is classed as a medium term solution to a huge problem when it comes to providing public service broadcasting.
Both news teams will be under separate control of their own management, but their costs will be shared, providing ITV with an opportunity to remain in the game without the current huge costs attached to it.
It is expected that this deal will see public service broadcasting remaining on ITV until at least 2016, as long as the deal works out well for the parties involved in producing regional news programmes.
