Vodafone takes £5 million National Grid deal

Mobile provider, Vodafone UK, has taken over the contract to provide voice and mobile data services to the National Grid, in deal estimated to be worth around £5 million over three years.

The providers Orange and Vodafone UK were initially sharing this contract.

However Orange, for one reason or another, pulled out of the deal, leaving the way open for Vodafone UK to take over the contract.

The idea behind the contract is that Vodafone UK will supply laptops, SIMs and embedded SIM cards.

This equipment will be used by National Grid engineers to diagnose problems with the gas and electric network, and to work in the field remotely using the Vodafone UK mobile broadband network.
