At a conference in Cannes, Fergal Sharkey the CEO of UK Music has gone on record as saying that there are concerns over the current legislation being used in order to combat the illegal downloading of files through P2P.

There have been problems with law firms contacting internet users with threatening letters etc, but Sharkey believes that the an approach should be taken that embraces the modern world and the way that consumers like to go about obtaining music.

In a recent study, it was found that sixty four per cent of those surveyed would stop illegally downloading music if they got a letter from their internet service provider.

This increases to seventy six per cent if their ISP threatened them with disconnection.
