Leaks by Vodafone officials have revealed that the much anticipated Palm Pre smartphone will be a Vodafone exclusive.
Exclusive distribution of the Palm Pre would help consolidate Vodafone’s position against O2, who won the iPhone 3G exclusive deal last year.
Negotiations between Palm and Vodafone are still at an early stage – so the talks could end up anywhere.
Vodafone already has exclusive UK sale rights for the Blackberry Storm.
With O2 hogging the iPhone, and T-Mobile as Google’s G1 partner, you might expect Orange or 3 to be chasing the Palm Pre.
Orange has yet to comment, but 3 said they’re not interested because the Palm Pre (in the US version at least) lacks 3G connectivity.
The Palm Pre features a 3.1-inch multi-touch screen, 3 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and high speed processor that is four times faster than the iPhone.
