Philips is planning to launch its widest ever HDTV this year in the UK, in its latest effort to bring an authentic cinema experience into the home.
The 56-inch Cinema 21:9, which refers to the aspect ratio, will deliver images in the way they were intended by the movie makers.
On conventional HDTVs, which usually have a ratio of 16:9, the images are squashed, and those annoying black bars sit above and below the picture.
To further enhance the viewing experience, he 21:9 Cinema LCD TV will feature Philips’ Ambilight Spectra technology, but other details are sketchy at the moment.
A web site is expected this month, so further details, including price, should be available soon.
