The success of online retailing has been put down to the take up of broadband in the UK by Richard Dodd, head of media campaigns at the British Retail Consortium.
This was noticeable over the recent holiday period when online retailers reported rises in the amount of business they are seeing through their online services.
Over the festive period, reports say that in the UK consumers spent £4.67 billion online, despite the credit crunch and fears that the situation could be getting worse.
This figure is higher than the same time in the previous year when consumers spent £4.07 billion online.
The growth in online sales can be related to the rise in the take up of broadband services, which shows that as broadband take-up increases so will the amount of people choosing to do their shopping online, as they find that are able to save money and time by shopping this way.
