While technology experts have noted the lack of anything truly innovative at most of the technology expos during the past several months, one offering by Broadcast International holds promise.
Their new CodecSys AVC, if it performs as the company promises, will offer video compression at six times the current levels. (Read that story here)
Broadcast has been touting the new technology since last September, and reports that it has been performing well since December.
According to company representatives, content providers who use the system will be able to stream high-definition TV faster and more smoothly because of the improved compression.
If true, Broadcast International will have opened up the HD market to receive video technology where they once could not because of their limited bandwidth.
In short, the CodecSys AVC will put the burden more on the content host who is streaming the video than on the consumer at home who is receiving it.
Much cheaper hardware will be required on the consumer’s end to receive and view high-definition video.
The new buzz word in the technology industry is “future proof,” referring to a technology’s ability to grow and evolve without becoming obsolete.
Broadcast International says CodecSys AVC will allow more content streamers to boast of being “future proof” since consumers will not have to constantly upgrade to better technology to receive HD video.
