Global broadcast services shutdown

The financial crisis in the UK has had some very wide side effects, as one UK-based satellite provider found out.

Global Broadcast Services, trading as GTV, has been providing satellite services in Uganda for the last two years, their main attraction being the licence to transmit Premier League football matches from the UK.

But despite being established in twenty-two countries and indeed running this operation for two years, the company found itself in position where it was unable to get new financing and loans from its bankers.

As a result of this, GTV has closed down with immediate effect, causing its subscribers’ screens to go blank.
