Mobile broadband must improve

If the UK is looking to create a broadband network that competes with the rest of the world, it will need to improve services right across the board and not rely on a few companies to invest in their own networks.

According to the regulatory director at Hutchinson 3G, mobile broadband coverage will need to increase if the UK’s plans for a next gen network are to succeed.

There is no doubt that the current spectrum policy is not helping the mobile broadband industry implement its plans, but the industry still needs to work on the geographic nature of its upgrades.

It seems that cities and major towns are likely to be upgraded, whereas in rural areas there are some place with no mobile broadband access at all, very similar to the situation with fixed line broadband.
