BT to sue Council over contract

A cancelled computer contract will see provider BT taking its customer, Essex County Council, to court, saying that the way the council has gone about terminating the contract, which still has three and half years to run, is illegal.

Essex County Council is in the process of implementing some serious cost cutting procedures and bringing the IT and computing services in-house would go a long way towards reaching the £200 million savings needed to keep Council Tax increases at the minimum.

However, this action could end up costing the Council a substantial sum according to BT as, after consulting its legal team, it believes it can sue Essex County Council for substantial damages.

Although the council believes that BT was not delivering value for money, this action could cost them millions of pounds.
