Small and medium sized businesses will soon be able to offer their customers free access to the internet through a Wi-Fi hotspot provided by BT.
This could work in favour of businesses where customers have to wait, such as doctors, dentists, hairdressers and so on, but could also be a value added service for bars, cafes and restaurants.
BT has released the service, where the hotspot in a small business’s broadband hub is enabled at no cost.
The hub owner will then have to buy vouchers to access the BT Openzone. These can then be given to customers, or in some cases sold.
So far, around twenty thousand BT customers have received the firmware needed to enable the broadband hubs hotspot, but BT says that 200,000 more customers should be receiving it by the end of the first quarter of the year.
