After a wait of four years, and several attempts by BT engineers to connect eighty five year old Vincent Baker to the broadband network, the retired catering executive is finally able to surf the net at broadband speeds.
Mr Baker had been told on several occasions that the phone line at his home in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, in Wales, was suitable for broadband.
However, on each occasion that the BT engineers turned up to connect him they said there was a problem.
This was confusing because other households in the village had a broadband service.
Finally BT engineers carried out extensive work in order to get him connected to the broadband network and this time it was successful.
Mr Baker now has an up to 3 Mbps service provided by Tiscali and his wife believes that he is now spending far too much time on the computer.
