Consultation started on BBC’s Canvas

The first public consultation for the new BBC joint venture project, Canvas, has been initiated.

It will evaluate the broadcaster’s idea to collaborate with commercial channels ITV, Five and Channel Four, in an attempt to recover from the disappointment around a previous joint venture, Kangaroo, which was not approved by the regulator Ofcom, or by the competition commission.

The idea is to create a video on demand service that offers content from the four broadcasters.

This new service will initially cost the BBC £6 million, eventually increasing to a massive £16.6 million.

The public consultation will be looking into how Canvas intends to bring in enough revenues to cover the cost of this project.
