The satellite broadcaster, BSkyB, is getting behind the national cycling team, in an attempt to take the sport by storm, by creating Team Sky.
The team will be based in Manchester at the Eastland’s Velodrome.
One thing that will make this team different to any other cycling team is that they will be getting premier league football spending power, around £10 million per year, most of which will be provided by BSkyB.
It is hoped that Team Sky will attract the sports’ best cyclists and in order to continue this through there will be enough cash available to develop the best young talent in the sport.
Team Sky is intent on winning and has enough cash to make this happen.
Its ultimate goal is to get a British cyclist on the podium in Paris at the end of the Tour de France.
