Has BSkyB beaten ITV into the ground?

It is perfectly clear that satellite broadcaster, BSkyB, has won the battle for advertising revenues, although they do have the distinct advantage of having subscribers too, therefore they win on both counts.

However, if BSkyB had been allowed to takeover ITV, would the broadcaster be in the position it is now?

ITV has answered its critics by making immediate cost cutting measures.

This includes a further six hundred job losses to be added to the thousand last year, and cutting £65 million from the programme budget.

Yet these cuts could only make ITV weaker in the future, as it has relied on the quality of the drama projects it has produced over the years.

Therefore, it would seem that the obvious solution would be a takeover.

With BSkyB still holding a 17.6 per cent stake in ITV could the impossible really happen?

WRONG! ITV still has half of the ad market – and maintained its share. Sky makes a fraction from commercials across all of it’s many channels combined. The question is about the sustainability of advertising itself – not about Sky attracting ad spend
