LG Rumored to Leave the Plasma Market
by Franz Bicar
After Vizio left the plasma TV market and Pioneer completely abandoning it, another major company is thinking about taking a break from plasma televisions. This time, its the Korean manufacturer LG. The rumours started after a Korean newspaper Kyodo News claimed vice president at LG Lee Gyu-hong said in an interview that LG was aiming to reduce costs and did not see a future in plasma technology.
As mentioned above, this “business moves” are the direct effect of today’s economic difficulties that has sent several major companies into cost-cutting programs.
Luckily for LG consumers, the company quickly denied these rumours. LG, which was one of the founding members of the Plasma Display Coalition, said it was still committed to producing plasma screens and that they were an important part of the flat panel display market. The company also revealed it will concentrate on producing 50in and bigger screens, as it claims this is where there’s most demand.
