BSkyB is looking for the government to change the rules that govern the TV rights on sports that are on the so called protected list.
This is to ensure that large sporting events such as the football World Cup and the Olympics are available on free-to-air TV where everyone can see them.
Yet just as those members of the general public who do not want to subscribe to Sky TV are thinking that these sporting events are protected, the government minister in charge of UK media, Andy Burnham, is said to be reviewing the list of protected sports.
This would normally imply that the power behind Sky TV, BSkyB, would look to be getting its own way, but it seems that the minister is considering adding more sports to the protected sports lists, rather than taking some off the list.
