Channel Four sells ads on YouTube

by David Allen

Broadcaster Channel Four has found a new opening to gain some advertising revenue.

It intends to sell the space around its own content on the video site YouTube.

This is the first time that the Google owned site has made a shared advertising deal with a UK based terrestrial TV channel, but no doubt it will not be the last, as commercial TV operations are in need of new revenue streams.

The first adverts will appear around the Channel Four programming on YouTube from the 26th March, while the advertising space will be sold through the broadcasters Future and Digital Media group.

Selling advertising space like this makes good business sense for Channel Four.

If its content is going to be on YouTube anyway, it may as well get some revenue from it.
