Taking a mobile broadband service abroad should, in theory, be ok, as long as the user takes steps to inform their mobile broadband provider that they will be travelling abroad and want to make use of the mobile broadband service.
However it does not always work that way, as one Vodafone customer found out when he checked his bill.
Will Pierce is paying £25 per month, but because he had been away he knew it would be higher, but didn’t expect a £21,716 bill.
First of all a customer would be amazed that Vodafone just sat back and allowed a bill of this amount to build up without thinking that something could be wrong.
The prospect of paying a bill of this size could be too much for some people to take.
Fortunately for Mr Pierce this bill has been written off, which is a good move by Vodafone as the EU are pushing for new data roaming rules.
