Panasonic TH-46PZ800U Plasma HDTV
by Franz Bicar
Panasonic has always been known for the quality of their home entertainment systems. The Panasonic TH-46PZ800U plasma HDTV is not that different offering stellar audio and acceptable video performances that would surely attract a lot of people. Aside from that, Panasonic bundles their products in a sleek and attractive casing that makes it appealing and very stylish.
The TH-46PZ800U plasma HDTV is not the best of the best. It’s more of a mid-tier product that would appeal to the masses both in price and performance. The stylish set nicely balances image quality and features. Several reviews and tests rated this plasma set’s image quality as good. Like other plasma HDTVs it supports a wide viewing angle. Its level of detail is also very impressive for a plasma of this caliber. However, some people might find some colors to be washed out and dull, but then again, every review, every assessment is relative to the viewers tastes.
The TH-46PZ800U enjoys THX certification. So when run in THX mode, the TV should approximate the image quality of a professional monitor used in mastering video content. You’ll see what the filmmakers saw when they signed off on the final product.
Speaking of preset modes, the TH-46PZ800U doesn’t ask you, out of the box, whether you’ll be using the set as a store demo or in your home. As a result, you’ll have to adjust the set yourself to optimize the TV for home use.
As for its audio quality, the Panasonics’ was phenomenal when matched against competing sets’ built-in speakers. The audio strained when the volume is turned all the way up, but at two-thirds of maximum volume, you could hear every quiet detail of a movie’s soundtrack.
