Setanta pays FA £10 million

Concerns about the ability of the sports satellite broadcaster, Setanta, to pay its way when it comes to showing live FA Cup football and England international friendly matches, have been eased as the company has just paid the outstanding £10 million payment.

Although much has been said about the satellite provider’s ability to pay, it is still not late or overdue with the payment.

It turns out that it is just at the end of the three week payment window.

This has highlighted the problems that Setanta and ITV are having with meeting the commitments agreed before the economic downturn, which has led advertisers to pull in the reins on spending.

It turns out that if Setanta actually defaulted on the agreement, the rights for the England matches would automatically go to ITV at an agreed rate.
