Broadcast solutions provider Broadcast International (BI) has signed a UK distribution deal with OCF.
Under the terms of the deal, OCF will distribute, install, and maintain BI’s CE-1000 and future CodecSys AVC VOS Systems in the UK.
CodecSys reduces the bandwidth needed to deliver online TV and video content by using a multicodec approach.
“We’re thrilled to partner with OCF and recognize the important role they’ll play as our video compression software is integrated more and more in the United Kingdom,” said Rod Tiede, BI’s president and CEO.
He added: “While Europe is ahead of other areas of the world in terms of IPTV adoption, the bandwidth crisis is a global phenomenon and the industry as a whole is in need of a solution like CodecSys that can dramatically reduce bandwidth to accommodate the growing demand of online video.”
Sheffield-based OCF distributes products to 20% of the UK’s universities, as well as to companies in the automotive, aerospace, utilities, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, oil and gas, and financial industries.
Julian Fielding, OCF’s Managing Director, said: “We’re excited at the opportunity to partner with Broadcast International.
“We are convinced that Broadcast International’s CodecSys video compression software is a game-changing technology in the video distribution industry.”
CodecSys uses a multicodec approach in which a video stream is analysed, and the codec best suited for that video stream is automatically selected from a library of codecs.
Some of the codecs are designed to handle particular types of high-bandwidth video, such as fast-motion sequences in a basketball game or explosions in an action movie.
