West Midlands Police choose Sysec PKI
by David Masters
Sysec Security Group has won a contract with West Midlands Police to provide a secure Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) as part of the authority’s Gateway programme.
Sysec’s PKI will provide secure access to Gateway that complies with the requirements of the National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA) and the PND.
West Midlands Police, the second largest police force in the UK, plans to use Gateway to integrate access to computer systems and information, including the Police National Database (PND), duty rotas, and employee attendance information.
Gateway will provide the force with a consistent and secure method to access all facilities and systems.
Paul Williamson, West Midlands Police spokesperson, said: “Our Gateway programme integrates 13 discrete projects and associated business processes into one secure solution for our personnel to access buildings, computer systems and national reference data for more effective policing.”
Sysec’s system will also provide a full audit trail for all building and systems access, and allow for police officers to sign documents digitally.
Andy Bryars, security consultant at Sysec, said that his company’s system “will provide West Midlands Police with a highly flexible solution for access to the facilities and systems and improve productivity by delivering more effective, technology-enabled policing.”
