Credit card details revealed online

Through a simple search on Google, it has been found that the credit card details of nineteen thousand UK residents are freely available to anyone who cares to look.

It is believed that the information was released accidentally by cyber criminals who were trying to selling the data.

The details listed included names and addresses of thousands of American Express, MasterCard and Visa card holders, as well as their credit card information.

Google has since confirmed that the details have been removed from the search engine, but this is just an example of the sort of information being sold over the internet to thieves, who use the credit cards or attempt to steal the owner’s identity.

The banking organisation APACS has said that most of the credit cards displayed had already been cancelled and that the customers were probably unaware that their details were available on Google.

ADMIN EDIT: This has actually been the case for a few years, now, that stolen credit card details could be found on Google Search. While most such lists tend to be out of date, the worrying aspect from this story is the fact that the delay in removal of the Google cache of the page(s) in question allowed such details to remain online much longer than needed. – Brian
