SanDisk Corporation has announced that Hay Group, a global management consultancy, has selected SanDisk’s Cruzer Enterprise secure USB flash drives and Central Management & Control (CMC) software to help protect confidential business and client data.
Hay Group’s UK operation wanted to extend data security to cover USB flash drives, and add further protection for third-party data and internal files against loss or theft while its consultants are away from the office.
Gary Spokes, Hay Group’s data protection officer said: “Intellectual property is our business – and clients rely on our confidentiality.
“As part of our ongoing drive to improve data security, we identified the increasing use of USB memory sticks by our consultants.
“We wanted a solution that kept the convenience of the drives, while ensuring data was fully protected.”
Hay Group’s UK IT manager Parminder Bharj and Gary Spokes evaluated several possible solutions, choosing SanDisk’s Cruzer Enterprise drives for their ease of use, hardware-based encryption and centralised management.
“The SanDisk drives are just as easy to use as an ordinary memory stick – the only difference is the encryption password.
“This means users get comfortable with them very quickly. Because the encryption is hardware-based and mandatory, users don’t need to worry about whether a file is encrypted or not, and data is protected wherever the drive is used,” said Parminder Bharj.
Hay Group intends to deploy SanDisk CMC software to manage its fleet of drives, giving additional control over the data being stored, and supervision of day-to-day tasks such as password management and backup.
Parminder Bharj added: “The CMC software was a key factor for us, as it synchronises with Active Directory to ensure adherence to our data security policies.
“For example, we can ensure users can only set complex passwords, and terminate drives that are lost or stolen.
“It lets users get on with their work without having to worry about data being secured.”
SanDisk Cruzer Enterprise flash drives protect all files stored on the drive with advanced hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption.
Cruzer Enterprise is also fast, with read speed of 24MB/sec and write speed of 20 MB/sec.
SanDisk CMC software provides lifecycle management for Cruzer Enterprise drives, including password recovery and renewal through the network, remote termination of lost drives, central back-up and restore, and central usage tracking.
This means data is not lost when a drive is lost, and IT staff can provision replacement flash drives with user files stored on the network.
