Envivio unveils mobile TV upgrade for operators

Envivio today unveiled an updated compression solution for its 4Caster C4 and M2 mobile TV encoders at the CTIA Wireless 2009 conference in Las Vegas.

Elite Compression is designed to optimise media playback on the most popular recent handsets – making the most of improved processor performance.

Envivio claims that the solution ‘dramatically improves’ mobile TV performance across the broadest possible spectrum of mobile devices.

Elite Compression enables mobile TV subscribers to put to full use the media playback capability of their devices.

Elite Compression is based on the H.264 open standard and is compatible with the standard media players provided by companies such as MV, NXP, and RealNetworks that are already installed on millions of handsets.

Because it is based on an open standard, the service does not require any specialist handset upgrades.

Boris Felts, Envivio’s vice president of product marketing, said: “Elite Compression directly addresses the primary factor that attracts and retains subscribers and does not rely on a proprietary solution that requires millions of handsets to be updated and which locks operators to a single supplier.”

Operators who upgrade their Envivio subscription to Elite Compression before 31 May 2009 will receive a 35% discount.
