Openwave Systems yesterday announced the launch of Openwave Accelerator, which increases download speeds over mobile broadband whilst reducing bandwidth consumption.
This delivers faster browsing speeds for mobile broadband customers, whilst reducing costs for the operator.
Dan Nguyen, Openwave’s interim vice president of product management and product marketing, said: “Openwave Accelerator helps operators optimise their networks, increasing data transfer rates and reducing bandwidth consumption irrespective of end device while preserving the visual quality of the content displayed.”
The Openwave Accelerator is part of Openwave’s suite of mobile Internet value-added services available on its Integra Mobile Internet Service Platform.
Accelerator uses enhanced content compression techniques and content caching to speed up connections without affecting the visual quality of content.
This reduces network bottlenecks – so operators no longer need to expand their networks.
Furthermore, the network can handle more simultaneous connections, potentially increasing billable traffic.
A recent survey by Openwave Systems found that Facebook and MySpace are the top two search queries on Google and Yahoo’s mobile search services.
