The free to view satellite service Freesat is taking the plunge and is going to be holding an awards ceremony on the 20th May.
The Freesat Awards will recognise the usual type of achievement like Channel of the Year, Product of the Year and also Installer of the Year.
The awards system has been used in the past by broadcasters as it tends to get the viewers involved in voting for their favourite programmes and presenters.
However, on this occasion the winners of each category will be chosen by a panel of industry experts that includes the Guardian’s Executive Editor Janine Gibson, DTG chairman David Docherty and Freesat’s MD Emma Scott, which is not as good as a public vote.
The reason why Freesat has chosen this time to launch the awards is that it is coming to its first anniversary and by all accounts, it has had a good year so far.
