Buckingham Research has released results of a survey on HDTV which identified that while 99% of consumers are aware of the technology, only 1 in 10 are ready to buy a high definition set.
A total of 695 people responded to the survey, and 85% of these were aware of HDTV, a further 14% were aware of it, but said they didn’t understand it, while only 1% had no knowledge of HDTV.
However, only 11% classed HDTV as a priority buy for 2009.
Although 48% of respondents said that the technology made watching TV more enjoyable, 35% said that it was not worth the money and 45% said there weren’t enough HD channels available.
Research firm iSuppli also released a report on the HDTV market, but focused on the uptake of HD-related devices worldwide.
iSuppli’s research highlights the increasing popularity of HDTV and forecasts a threefold growth in HD consumer device shipments by 2012.
It expects the number of HD set-top boxes (STBs), camcorders, DVD players and video game consoles shipped to triple over the period.
