In around four years time the internet is going to form the backbone of all entertainment for the home, with direct access to games, TV programmes, films and other entertainment available through the internet rather than other through digital TV services such as satellite and cable TV.
This is the scenario being put around by none other than Microsoft through a report named ‘Europe logs on: internet trends of today and tomorrow’.
By the year 2013, Microsoft says that internet access will reach around 14.2 hours per week, whereas TV viewing will stand at around 11.5 hours over the same period.
This growth does not mean that everyone is going to be surfing because it also believe that computer use will fall from ninety five per cent to fifty per cent.
Entertainment will be provided by web enabled devices such televisions, phones and games machines.
