Mobile social networking app Palringo has been nominated for the 2009 ‘Best Use of GPS or Location Technology’ Webby Award.
Martin Rosinski, Palringo founder and CTO, said being nominated for a Webby demonstrates that Palringo is at the ‘leading edge’ of functionality in a messaging service.
Palringo – available for all handsets under two years old – offers a service that’s rapidly becoming boringly familiar: the ability to integrate social networking contacts into a single application.
AIM, GTalk, Yahoo! Messenger, Jabber, and MSN messenger contacts can all be contacted over Palringo.
Palringo does, however, have two unique selling points: first, the ability to send ‘walkie talkie’ style voice messages to contacts; second, the ability to display your location to contacts – hence its nomination for a Webby.
Of course, this function is only useful if your friends also have a GPS handset, and have downloaded Palringo.
