There has been a lot said recently about equality in the work place, yet it seems that although the likes of BBC and Channel Four are quick to talk about the equality issues that are affecting workers in all sectors of industry, this may not be the case when it comes to their own employees.
In fact, while the Equality Bill is being revealed by the Minister for Equality, Harriet Harman, the BBC and Channel Four will be looking for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to add them to the list of exempted organisations.
The new law will require all organisations to take gender, sex and race into consideration when employing staff.
This would include actors applying for positions in dramas and other productions.
The broadcasters feel that this requirement could affect editorial independence and quality.
