BSkyB releases results today

There are currently 9.32 households subscribing to Sky TV and around one million of these have chosen to take up the high definition service Sky+ HD.

Around 1.4 million customers of Sky subscribe to all three services -TV, broadband and phone, while around 5.1 million customer use the Sky+ set top box.

For Sky this means that the average spend for customer has risen from £424 in the first three months of 2008 to £452 in the same period this year.

The results for the three months to the end of March show that Sky has added eighty thousand new customers, a forty three per cent increase on the 2008 same quarter. In fact, City analysts expected just fifty thousand new customers.

These are good results for Sky considering the current financial crisis.
