Orange passes 2.5 million TV customers

Costs are one of the main issues for broadcasters these days, and for Orange TV the costs involved acquiring film rights and sports events for its recently launched range of premium channels has had an effect on the parent company’s profits.

Subscribers have increased across the board, with 2.2 million customer for pay TV in France, 316,000 for the satellite service and 1.85 million using the Orange IPTV service, while the premium sport and film channels attracted a further 363,000 customers.

On a global scale Orange had gained around 2.5 million pay TV customers by the end of March, which is up by a huge seventy five per cent on the annual figure.

Due to the costs of buying in the content, the group’s revenues were up by only 0.4% on the year.
