Sky Sports get marketing and branding man

Sky has created a new role within its organisation – Director of Sports and Marketing.

The job will entail the development, organisation and rolling out of brand strategies created exclusively for Sky Sports and Sky News.

For this complicated role BSkyB has brought in the former Global Head of Brand, Product and Service at British Airways, David Murdin, who will be reporting to Andy Bent, the Sky group Director of Brand Marketing.

Recently BSkyB revealed that it intends to create a professional British road cycling team in time for the Olympics in 2012.

This is just part of the branding exercise that is expected to take the name Sky into new markets and hopefully bring in either more subscribers or new advertising opportunities.
