For what is believed to be the first time, the micro blogging site Twitter has had its internal administration system hacked, potentially exposing millions of accounts to the intruder.
It is said to be the work of a French hacker known as Hacker Croll, who promptly bragged about the hack by displaying thirteen screen grabs that included Twitter’s director of product management, Jason Goldman on a French based forum.
Twitter states that there was an intrusion into the system and around ten individual accounts were affected.
Although they have not been made known to the public, all affected users have been contacted.
The site has now instructed an independent security firm to look into the system and see what they can find in order to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future.
