The Carphone Warehouse has taken a giant leap to become the largest internet service provider to consumers in the UK.
It has now taken over the UK division of struggling broadband and telecom provider Tiscali, giving it around 4.25 million customers, serving over a quarter of UK households.
The deal was sealed on Friday and, although there are no immediate changes, Tiscali customers have been informed by email of the deal and that the switchover will take place over the next couple of months.
Currently BT is the largest ISP with 4.7 million customers, although these figures do include business users too.
The work has just begun for the Carphone Warehouse, as its overall goal will be to convert Tiscali’s customers to the Carphone Warehouse’s phone, mobile and broadband service.
There will also be changes in the terms and conditions for the users that may means changes in the way that they use the internet.
